| These are some examples of productions I've worked on as a carpenter. Little Old Broadway - University of Texas at Arlington (Master Carpenter) I worked on this musical as one of two master carpenters. The scenery for this production filled every batten available and almost every square inch of backstage space. My main challenge was to build a 30ft deep by 20ft wide by 3ft tall platform that had to quickly and quietly roll on and off stage. I was also the deck crew chief for all performances, and choreographed a crew of 6 to work precisely in time with the moves of a fly crew of 6. Love of a Pig - Mountain View College (Master Carpenter) I was hired on as the only carpenter for this production. I was in a space I didn't know, with few resources, and a two week deadline. I was able to create working drawings from design drawings, revive most of their old stock platforms from near death, and complete the job on time almost entirely on my own. It was difficult work, but quite fulfilling in the end. The Laramie Project - University of Texas at Arlington (Carpenter) This production required the removal of the orchestra pit to accommodate the set. The incredible number and variety of platforms used made it challenging to achieve the precision needed, but we had an excellent team of carpenters. We were tasked with building four podiums that could lower to the level of a bench and support the weight of multiple people, then lower again to be flush with the stage floor. I also assisted with the setup of the three front projectors for the production. They were each located in different areas across the catwalks above the audience, and controlled by three separate computers running PowerPoint slide shows that included video and still images. Proof - University of Texas at Arlington (Carpenter) The set for this production was made to replicate the back patio of a house. It was built in a studio space which meant it required a high level of detail and craftsmanship due to the close proximity to the audience. | ||||
